On the boats journey from Crick to London delivering the Crystal Palace parts, they were approaching Gayton Junction where a photostop was arranged. A new railway bridge replacing a level crossing was needed. The reason for the new bridges was because of the large project to re-build the West Coast Main Line. If the bridge hadn't been built, the level crossing would have been closed for up to 50 min's in the hour with the increased frequency of higher speed trains. A new bridge over the canal of course was also needed. Network Rail photographed the boats with their new bridge in the background – contrasting the old and the new travel modes.

Photographs courtesy of Fastline Photographic. Bridge 43A - about 100 meters east of the old bridge 43.
