Site Content
Since the site was first published in December 1998 the site has grown considerably
in size. This page is designed to help explain what material is here and how to
find it. There are pages on history, engineering news, trip reports, photo
album, Friends of President membership, the journal of FoP 195 etc. Each of these
pages has a "home page" which provides on-going links to other material.
- History
- The Black Country Living Museum and the boats are all about living history. This
area of the site details the boats history, the restoration to steam in 1970's and
a table detailing almost all the trips the boat has done since then.
- Engineering
- One of the main appeals of President for many people is the coal steam plant & engine.
This is especially topical at the moment as the boat has recently completed the
largest refit since restoration. All the technical information on the boat can be
found from here, plus photographs of some of the many working parties.
- Trip Schedule
- The years boating schedule is posted here once it is confirmed, and hopefully updated
regularly.
- Trip Reports
- Many people like to read of the journeys and adventures the boat crews have around
the canals. Also included is the trip schedule for the current year.
- Photo Albums and Video clips
- We have a large number of photographs of the boats & their journeys. Many of
these are used to illustrate articles, but many more are grouped together in photo
albums. Plus some video clips of the boat.
- Friends of President
- FoP exists to preserve and promote the use of the steam narrow boat President and
butty Kildare. This page has membership and contact details.
- News
- 195 is the journal of Friends of President - and we have a newsletter called "Steaming
Up". A large amount of the material on this web site is derived from these
sources.
- Black Country Living Museum
- The boats are owned by the museum, and the Friends of President run them. This
page has some details of the museum and links to their own website.
- What's New
- This used to enable you to see at a glance what may be new on the web site.
- Links to other web sites
- There are many hundreds of website's devoted to the UK waterways and boating. These
are just a few.
- Site map
- This page contains a link to most pages on the site ( At least it should ! )
- Contact information
- for Friends of President officers, the webmaster and the Black Country Living Museum
- Kildare
- This is the 'butty' towed around the system as crew boat. She is a historic boat in her own right.
